The roll of a Friday Townhall is to help people disconnect and destress before the weekend so they can actually have a break. Whenever people bring up loose ends or things we need to do - it becomes too action oriented and they can’t even be actioned right away.

We used to do friday retros but this felt unnecessary with the monday strategy meeting and daily check ins.

Try to keep the conversations as wrapping up the week and reassure the team.

There are 3 types of retros we do:

  1. Reflection Exercises: people can share wins, kudos, challenges and learnings one by one.
    1. Wins: anything that was a big win for them in the context of the company
    2. Challenges: anything they are struggling with in the context of the company
    3. Kudos: Is there anyone that they really wanted to shout out or appreciate that week
    4. Learnings: Anything interesting they learned this week
  2. Team Development Games: they can be any kind of game that helps the team get to know each other more
  3. Games for Games Sake: Not everything needs to have a corporate reason - just have fun with the team.
