There are 4 things that help with memorisation or storing things to memory:
- Repetition: Consistently revisiting information helps to consolidate it in our long-term memory.
- Association: Linking new information to something we already know aids in memory retention. This is why champion memorisers use the ‘memory palace’ to associate the thing they want to memorise with items in a palace
- Novelty: New and unique experiences or information are more likely to be remembered.
- Emotional Resonance: We tend to remember events or information that have a strong emotional impact.
